A cross-section of members of the Liberian Legislature, on August 18-19, 2019, underwent a two-day training in Gender Responsive Planning and Budgeting as they debate the current draft budget before that body for FiscalYear 2019/2020. Participants of the training were drawn from the memberships of the committees of Ways; Means and Finance; Public Accounts and Expenditure as well as Governance and Government Reform which I head. The training came immediately after another two-day retreat of the entire Lawmakers with the President on the need to make some amendments in the nation’s constitution. The two gatherings were held at the Farmington Hotel at Roberts Filed, near Harbel in Margibi County.

By this training, the relevant sector of the Legislature has been armed with the technical know-how in ensuring that the interests of all persons, especially women and children are accentuated in the budget. The training was sponsored by UN Women and partners operating in Liberia.
