Global Parliamentary Bodies Conclude Their Activities at the Nairobi Summit on ICPD25

The Nairobi Summit on ICPD25was a success. With more than 190 countries represented at the highest level, including more than 120 Lawmakers, decisions were made that will accelerate the implementation of the promise made in Cairo 25 years ago as the world moves towards the 2030 deadline. Before the closing ceremony on 14th November, Lawmakers from some of the countries In attendance held their third and final deliberation. At the said program they agreed to step up their lawmaking as well as their oversight functions in ensuring the successful achievement of the goals of the ICPD and, by extension, those of the Sustainable Development Goals ( SDGs).

Among those speaking at the closing was Hon. Marie Rise Nguini Effa, President of the Africa Parliamentary Forum on Population and Development (FPA); Other Regional Parliamentary bodies at the closing ceremony were the Asian Population and Development Association (APDA); European Parliamentary Forum of Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights; Inter-American Parliamentary Group (IAPG) on Population and Development, among others. Partners, including UNFPA, spoke during the closing program. The parliamentary bodies concluded by pledging to accelerate the implementation of the promise of the Summit.
